A melancholic goodbye

Melancholia

I wish I could hate you

Call you names, scream or cry

But you parted so peacefully

It almost felt like casual goodbye

Your hand was gliding out of mine

As you walked in a different direction

I watched you disappear on the horizon

While the sun was slowly setting

Look at the bright side, they say

But there is no light at night

No glimmer guiding my way

No greater goal in sight

Wandering around in darkness

Trying to fill the void you left

Without love, there is no purpose

My life only scratches the surface

Without your strings attached

I feel confused and all alone

Your attention was unmatched

Now I’m facing the unknown

Still it was the right decision

After all this mental attrition

I need a place to rest

Put an end to the stress

I still feel the warmth of your last hug

How cold will it be, once it’s gone?

I finally pulled the plug

Removed the thorn

Carry the wound as a reminder

Punish myself with grief

Got a whole lifetime to mourn

And relive our happy memories

"mourn about happy memories" is a terrible turn of phrase. Those memories were good; we mourn their loss.

A sad and mournful poem of loss and well written. Very nice
