Fire Escape

KTay

Douse the house in gasoline

Toss the match

Erupt the scene

All possessions

There is no need

Just burn it down

Just set me free

Bodies burning on the sheets

Photographs

Melt memories

The embered stories

The life unseen

The smokeless chimney

The cracking beams

Bloodied walls of black and blue

Painted over

Hidden truths

Steps of lies

The shackled shoes

Broken pieces

The bubbling glue

Never evers

Forever yours

You are theirs

The nevermores

Falling over

Undertow

Thickening ashes

The bones aglow

Collapsing wreckage

Buckling floors

Pile of rubble

The open door

This poem flows with the meaning to me of the meaninglessness of possessions in comparison to relationships. A lovely write

Often we hang onto possessions that are of no good to us and weigh us down, sometimes we value them more than we do relationships, nicely expressed and written

Great poem! KTay. Sorry I have been so absent, my friend. Been a rough few weeks for me and my family. Yesterday we lost our 11 1/2 young puppy. I know we did her right, but it is always a hard decision to make. And the beauty, for me, in reading this poem is that it is speaking about cutting out the triviality and finding what is truly meaningful. Reminds me of the scene from The Crow with Brandon Lee, where his character, Eric Draven, is remembering how he used to look at the things his love (Shelly) used to find amusing as being trivial. But following his death he realized that NOTHING is trivial. Profound, as is this poem. A fave for me. 🌹👏

My condolences. I know how it is. Just put our last dog down at Christmas time and the first the previous Christmas. Hope you are doing well! And thank you for your words! Appreciate it. Have to rewatch the movie, has been way too long.
