The Dark Side of the Earth

KTay

There's something inside me

That shares my name

Something I am feeling

To my core

It's ingrained

Something visceral

Something ancient

Some primal trepidation

Coming through

On the surface

A warning siren

With wailing purpose

Proceed with caution

Hesitation

Be wary of the stranger

What's that noise

What's that lurking

In the shadows

Always smirking

Who are they

What's their motive

All of a sudden

I am noticed

Be wary

Of their smile

Of that look

In their eye

What is twisting in their minds

Paranoia

This isn't that

This is knowing

This is fact

There is darkness

There is evil

It is writhing

In the people

Pay attention

Hug the edge

There's a rapist

In the hedge

Killers hiding

In the corners

Leave your lights on

Heed the warnings

Check your closets

Under beds

There are monsters

Outside your head

Something's coming

Something's swarming

Overhead

A storm is forming

On the road

Cold and lonely

Can you hear it

All the crowing

There's a murder

Up ahead

Don't bare witness

You'll be dead

Turn around

You should run

You should have listened

You're in the trunk

A poem of suspicion, lack of trust and fear a poem of paranoia but then we know that things are out there to get us.

Layered in fear and mistrust of the world, feeling vulnerable in a world that feels unfriendly, nicely expressed and written
