The Chimerical Lady.

David Wakeling

I once saw a chimerical lady, just for a moment,

I remember rubbing my eyes in glorious wonderment,

I thought she must have been an apparition or heaven sent,

In a short whisper she was gone, and my joy was almost spent.

She hid behind a Maple tree imitating a bird’s song.
All she was wearing was a beautiful red and gold sarong,
I was captivated by her and I tried to sing along.
Suddenly she appeared and began to dance and sing this song.

" See what a mischievous day this is,

The Sun has a smile on it’s face,

The Old moon is lost in a giggle,

And all of us are dancing in space."

She finished her odd song, took a short bow and then turned to leave,

I was shaking my head. It was more than I could ever believe,

She turned her head and smiled, then she winked at me to deceive,
I sat down under that Maple tree and I was left to grieve.

For years I returned to that place but never saw her again,
I have since had a grueling life filled with loneliness and pain,
Sometimes I spare a moment when about me is pouring rain,

And I sing that song from the chimerical lady’s refrain.

" See what a mischievous day this is,

The Sun has a smile on it’s face,

The Old moon is lost in a giggle,

And all of us are dancing in space."
