Lamentation

Fränz Müller

That day, crystal clear

in my mind’s eye;

I did not know

it would be the last time

I’d see you, standing, smiling.

A moment, precious, now lost

except in my heart; I hold fast

to that memory, that precious memory

when I hugged you, and

told you I loved you,

as I had so many times before.

But this time, it was different

This time, I did not know

it was the last time.
