Sincerely, You

hello?

knock, knock...

it's been a while, hasn't it?

though it felt like forever,

I was here all along,

hiding in the cavity

of your heart.

you cannot fight me,

I'm much to powerful!

I dangle your pride above your head

so close-

yet out of reach.

I am the shame

in your subconscious,

the nightmare you forgot,

the omen on your path,

the words you couldn't make

yourself say.

I am the sugar in your coffee,

the rainbow against clouds,

the fat face of a newborn.

you never wanted kids,

so why are you crying?

because he won't give you any?

I tore through your aorta,

and slammed your head into the mirror

because you refused to

stare back.

no amount of scars can free you

from this skin,

but perhaps we're safer that way.

you're weak inside.

human.

I really am the mammal

beneath the monster.
