Side by Side U and I

Matthew R. Callies

They say love is written in the stars—

But I found it in the spacebar’s glow,

Where fingers fly and letters lie,

And you and I are row by row.

No accident, no grand design,

Just quiet fate in QWERTY's grace—

The way that U is next to I,

Forever sharing keyboard space.

We slip through typos, near-missed cues,

Yet still, we find our place anew.

Not just in scripts or texts we write,

But in the closeness of me and you.

So if the world should break apart,

If language fails or screens go dark,

Know this: we’ve always been aligned—

Two letters close, one single spark.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I noticed the letters "U" and "I" were next to each other on the keyboard and it gave me the idea for this poem.
