Abuse

The Indignant Poetess

A man who doesn’t run away from his own demons wouldn’t let me run away from him either,

And that’s exactly what I like.

I like a man who isn’t afraid of a little force,

Breathing down my neck as a constant reminder,

Your voice echoing in my head because another man looked at me,

My wrists barely painted on with a tint of rose by your fingertips…

Tears fall down my face as you coat me in your art.

A man without strength is nothing but a mere shell to me,

And I’ll be here as long as you keep me alive.

How do you feel about a man that’s all this but has no money?

    • The Indignant Poetess

I am going to assume you are genuinely asking and not trying to have a “gotcha” moment, but I was in an abusive relationship with a man who had no money.

This poem is not an expression of acceptance and love towards abuse but rather expanding upon the difficult and complicated feelings one may feel while they’re in an abusive relationship. To the person experiencing abuse, there are highs and lows, bad times as well as good times which makes it difficult for one to view their hardship with the “appropriate” lens.

I am genuinely asking thank you for that correct assumption. I guess abuse doesn’t care about anything else other than oppressing; the rich can do it and so can the poor.

Im sorry you went through those trials… im happy you write poetry… keep it up love
