Indigo and Stone

haleyalexis

The river whispers, dark and cold, I used to shine, a heart of gold. Now indigo stains all I see, A shadow clinging close to me.

I long to run, to disappear, From all the pain I feel so dear. This hollow ache, a constant friend, I wish this story had an end.

Am I too broken, past repair? A shattered soul beyond compare? We're all just dying, day by day, And love just fades and goes away.

Each promise made is sure to break, Each heart will learn how much to take. And people say their last goodbyes, With tear-filled eyes and fading sighs.

The trees stand stark against the sky, If I just took too much and die. This constant doubt, this heavy dread, I'm not worth your time, it's better I'm dead.

I watch the night fall on the town, Alone, with sorrow weighing down. They pushed her too far, I understand, She walked over, to a still, dark land.

I've been just a fool, such a lonely fool, Pretending your love was any truth, a cruel tool. The river calls and lures me in, A dark, cold quiet to end my sin.

To appreciate a poem to its full extent one must have been there in some way. It is the identification with that glimmering piece of humanity that makes a poem great to someone. Shared love, joy, pain from a poet makes this bond and here I have felt it and give it a fave
