I left the country
Thought I'd bury all my doubts
Said goodbye to all my sorrows
But I found them still around
I swore it was them who stole my trust
Left me stranded in the dust
But here I stand, no one to blame
Just the mirror calling my name
Same ghost, different city
Same storm, no escape
I run, but it runs with me
If I want peace, I have to change
New streets, but I make the same turns
Same fire, watching it burn
Impulse pulling at my sleeve
Like a shadow, I can’t leave
What if it’s me?
What if it’s always been?
If I break the cycle, can I let myself begin?
No more running, no more blame
It starts inside, it starts with change
I see it now,
I know it's true
The weight I bear is mine to lose
No more ghosts, no more chains
I let go, I will change

- Comment from author about the poem: When stress hits, it’s easy to believe that our problems are caused by others. The frustration, the anxiety, the overwhelming sense of injustice—it all feels like something external pressing down on us. We point fingers, convinced that if this person or that situation had been different, we wouldn’t be suffering. But stepping away from the moment changes everything. Distance brings clarity, and suddenly, the patterns emerge. The problems we thought were caused by others have followed us—because they were never just external. They were inside us all along. The fear, the reactions, the choices—we carried them in, and now they shape how we experience the world. So, what now? We change. We accept that our thoughts, perceptions, and responses are part of the equation. We take ownership of our emotions instead of letting them dictate our reality. Because the truth is, the only way out of the cycle is to recognize that sometimes, we are the problem we’re trying to escape. But the beauty of that realization? If we are the problem, we can also be the solution.
