Though it wasn’t that far from civilization
I’ll always remember that sweet mountain air
I loved not hearing any man-made sound
And I could be free and be myself there
Learning so much when out alone
Though gone for only a short time frame
The place still there physically to visit
But I know it can never feel the same
One day I want to find that peacefulness
Though I’ve yet to even come close
In the outdoors something is still missing
If I’ll find it before my time who knows
Maybe that place was only inner peace
Serenity perhaps from finding myself lost
Only I knew where I had wandered
Enjoying the absence regardless of cost
Did my peace come from where I went
Or from only what I needed to avoid
Was the refuge only special to escape
That need for refuge is now destroyed

Very nice it brings back memories of youth spent in the high Uinta mountains where I spent a week thirty miles form civilization. No roads of even trails just deer and trout in the stream and bear signs. A nostalgic feeling to this poem that has been lost to civilization for years. Indeed as you state the place still exists but now invaded by hikers, hunters and campers. Not at all the same nor is the feeling of going there.
Thanks for reading and your astute ability to understand. I just need to put my thoughts into words at times.
Don't we all. My pleasure
I find outer peace and inner peace are different, you can visit a beautiful location and feel relaxed and so at ease in that moment, but when you leave that area reality kicks in and the struggle for inner peace comes alive again , for some its a never ending battle with demons, nicely expressed and written write
Thank you for the simple words of wisdom.
You are very welcome, enjoy the rest of your day
