I shoveled out my grave today
To make it easier for the few
A burlap sack beside, I laid
"Just fine," I thought, "This will do."
I shoveled out my grave today
My hands bloodied and black
Hidden blisters swell beneath
Amongst splintered wood's attacks
I shoveled out my grave today
The overwhelming smell of dirt
No headstone or plaque to hold my place
It's just me in a hole in the earth
I shoveled out my grave today
Into the burlap sack, I writhed
Itching and scratching fostered my skin
I laid down with the worms inside
I shoveled out my grave today
And asked a few to fill it in
With every spadeful of dirt
I felt the heavyweight drop deep within
I shoveled out my grave today
Because sometimes you just have to die
Before you are truly able to live
This is the end of my life
