A prayer for my future child(ren)

Amanda Marie Nakdimen

I desire for my children many things…

May they learn to sit and be at peace with themselves and others from a young age

May they care for their minds, bodies, and spirits as if they’re taking care of a precious loved one

May they learn to identify and trust the sensations that run through their bodies, and use this gift as a compass

May they know their thoughts from truths

May their experiences, “good” & “bad” nourish them and facilitate growth

May the pain they will inevitably feel foster a great knowing and compassion for everything around them

May peace emanate from them

May they remain grounded in the earth, and feel one with the cosmos

May they always know their power

May their hearts and spirits remain full

May they carry the light that I hope to keep bright within my self

By doing the things I hope for them, I spread the very seeds this planet needs

May we all be the children and the hopeful parent

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was conceived of as I was reflecting on guidance I wish I had received as a child. I realized that I could be the parent I never had, both for myself and any future child(ren) I may be blessed with. As I was writing this, I was able to reach a deeper understanding of the person that I want to be. I realized how my actions have an effect on my wellbeing and ultimately, the world around me. The brightness of the light we carry is up to us. We have the power to bring joy and beauty to any situation. By taking care of ourselves, we model for those around us different ways one can show up in this world. To me, this is a deeply important aspect of our existence.
