It was the beginning of Autumn and the leaves were terrified,
The more observant noticed on the ground that those once green had died,
They feared that they were the next to take the trip to the other side.
Some strong souls hang on much longer, like stalwarts on the Titanic,
I noticed there were leaves that leaped into the blue beyond panic,
Perhaps they knew that their sole purpose and their joy was organic.
I looked out my window at falling leaves and they look back at me,
I wondered if we were alike, gravely clinging to the same tree,
Headed for a dreadful landing wondering what it means to be.
After a while, new shoots of green broke out were the old had been,
They grew proudly as if they knew it was a strange cycle unseen,
It made me think that there was something going on behind this scene.

Hello David,
What an interesting perspective, the lives of leaves, as you see them and the way they see you and all the comparisons with that. I like this one, very much so, the last line is a gem, summing up the whole poem in its entirety. Well done, my friend.
All the very best,
Tony.
