There is only one nation to represent.
There is only one flag worth to fly.
Freedom is something you can only fight to get.
It is not something you can buy.
For those who don't know,
about the American flag,
it is not just some cheap,
piece of rag.
The red stands for the blood,
spilt by those who fought for our freedom,
as the blue is the most overlooked.
It is the fact that it stands,
for vigilance, perseverance, and justice,
that really has me hooked.
It symbolizes our nation's commitment,
to protecting the rights of the people.
It represents the determination,
to keep these values.
The white, for those who do not know,
represents purity and hope;
for all the earlier settlers before
who wanted and knew,
they could have so much more.
There is only one flag to wave.
Anything else doesn't count.
So listen as it waves in air,
blowing, making that beautiful sound.

- Comment from author about the poem: The stars on our flag represents each state, and the thirteen stripes represent the original thirteen colonies. I wrote this piece on behalf of today being flag day. ... but every day is flag day. The only flag that should ever be flown in this country is the American flag. I truly hope that the readers not only enjoyed this piece, but also learned something from it. Red - Courage, Valor, Sacrifice - White - Purity, Innocence, Hope - Blue - Vigilance, Perseverance, Justice - Persistence is key
