Thoughts of you
swallow me whole —
a tide I can't resist.
I ache for you,
though you poison every breath.
I try to summon hate,
but I shatter when you’re near.
You haunt the corners
of every thought.
You devour me.
Your eyes drift past —
a stranger in my skin.
Do I vanish in your gaze?
Did I ever exist
to you?
Was it ever real?
I wait at the edge,
barefoot on the cliff —
will you pull me back,
or let me fall
and stain the rocks red?
I should whisper goodbye,
but my tongue forgets the words.
I only wish
you’d set me free —
and tell me
to leave.
