I Don`t Have To Agree.

Poetic Licence

I Don’t Have to Agree.

I am truly listening, but I don't have to agree.

Just Because you are pointing that gun at me.

I was raised in a land of choice, a democracy.

The person you want to be you are free to be.

I am free to believe what I choose to believe.

To not have my own opinions dictated to me.

Where all religions exist and live side by side.

No preacher man constantly trying to divide.

The children can choose on their own friends.

Not controlled by the view of any old religion.

Where all people of the land are free to speak.

Although some may not like what you preach.

Tolerance, Care and kindness is what we teach.

Where desires are dreams are not out of reach.

We understand success can come out of failure.

We do not all expect religion to be our saviour.

Problems will be solved by us talking together.

No preaching hatred, division so it stays forever.

As individuals we are free to speak and disagree.

Without running the risk of ending up deceased.

Nothing is ever resolved by a bullet from a gun.

That just ensures all the hatred gets ever strong.

So put down your gun and come and talk to me.

We both listen, and I won't mind if you disagree.

We agree to disagree to live and let live and no harm is no foul🕊️🙏🏻

Nataiella this poem speaks to me. Nicely stated it speaks to everybody's freedom not just one. I could never understand why it was so important to some people to convince everyone to their point of view. Let all have their own point of view what does it cost? Very nicely stated in poetic form.

For me this is a powerful poem about communication. You cannot communicate with someone if they hold a gun in your face. Very important poem.Made me think

Good write, PL. The greatest lesson ever learned we learned in kindergarten. Share your toys. Don't hit. Hold hands when you cross the street. OH, how far we stray.

  • Tristan Robert Lange

Truth! No two people can agree on everything...and I don't think lock-step agreeing is the point of relationships, let alone healthy relationships. Powerful poem, Natiella! 👏🌹

Me being daft - I played Russian Roulette incorrectly with someone. I loaded ALL BUT ONE chamber of the gun, and it was my turn to go first. Doh! lol.

You obviously got the empty chamber, your lucky day!!, enjoy the rest of your weekend

Let’s get our definitions clear here, can we?
If that gun is real, then I would agree to anything.
If, however, that gun is a figure of speech known as a metaphor (very popular hereabouts) then I’m behind you (still a safer position whatever the context) one hundred percent……
A great attitude really and there’s not enough of it where I live and quite possibly the world, Tobani.👍
      PS: Great write too.👍
