The Echo

Vanna

The Echo

I live in your shadow. Not beside you—beneath.

No one sees me— they just see your best friend.

It’s like I exist because you do. Like I was written in the margins of your story.

When you speak, people listen. You don’t have to say it twice. I shout into the same room, and get silence for an answer.

You’re the smart one. The athlete. The pretty one.

And me? I’m the pause that follows your name. I’m the friend no one remembers tagging in the photo.

So I guess I’ll keep living as your shadow.

I will continue being known as your echo— a voice that never belonged to me.
