THE DOOR

nephilim56

In dream
Repeated
A long corridor
Flaking paint
The waiting door
Once left behind
That varnished
Staircase rail
Creaking boards
My eyes to face.

Slowly intrepid
Walk of fear
Thumping heart
What to appear ?
Its dim light sways
Walls seem to narrow
In this dream
Logic to scatter.

Closer, closer
Ever closer
Drenched in sweat
My soul to smother
Three more steps
In dream I wait
Terrifying gasps
At last to wake.

This poem has a very nice subtle rhyme scheme to it with internal rhyming to make it flow but not have a nauseating sweetness to it. It works well and carries the reader on through the poem to the end. A poem of a dream that takes one to wakefulness. Lovely
