Java Chip Ice Cream, A White Porch Swing, A Cigar, Fifty Stars, and Thirteen Stripes

ForeverJesus7

As we wake up,

on a beautiful day,

I go to sit on our white porch swing,

where I often stay.

You meet me outside,

and sit next to me,

and present a bowl,

of Java Chip ice cream.

In the bowl,

are two silver spoons for us.

... but before we can finish,

it is melted by the sun.

Later that night,

we sit back on our wooden swing,

as we watch the fireworks,

and hear freedom ring.

I pull out a cigar,

and light it up,

and say, 'God bless America',

as I take a puff.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I am writing this piece on the 4th of July. For all of those on this site that is from America, 'Happy Independence Day'. To all those from England, 'We won. In your face', (Just kidding... or am I). Have a safe holiday. Throw a BBQ. Eat lots of pie. God bless America. Persistence is key

A poem that feels like home, peaceful and content with such a lovely sense of peace and accompanied by ritual. Well done
