DAY 5
I Will Write to Heaven Your Story (V)
24 hours later, your phone kept buzzing.
It buzzed and buzzed—
Texts from friends,
From old friends,
Rushing in like ring road traffic.
Calls came.
Messages poured in, like erosion.
From those unaware of your journey to heaven.
One text read:
“Hope you’ve packed your things for our next flight.”
Another:
“Your goods have arrived.”
But there was no you to travel.
No you to pick up anything.
Should we reply and say
You've kissed the soul?
Or that you went on a vacation—
And maybe, just maybe,
You might return?
But how could you,
When your organs
Had started to fall apart?
One by one,
They gave up—
No longer able to work as one.
Did you notice?
Your organs broke off.
Did it hurt?
I wish you never felt
The harsh ache of death’s hand.
