As I Preach to the Choir

Xalvazora

I don't need you,
I wish you'd understand.
If I confront you,
You wouldn't understand.

It's funny,
How you call yourself family.
It's funny,
That you're so full of pride.

You take away my drive,
So I don't need you to survive.
When your colors start to show,
It makes the hatred burn deep in my veins.

You want to be my idol?

You dim my fire,
By saying you're my sire.
I used to love you,
Said you did too.

Did you really mean it?
I showed you love,
That was never received.
You showed me coldness,
And you made me believe.

Will I ever escape you?
It's my destiny -
To not serve you.
I shape how I live,
You don't have a say.

You want me to get on my knees,
And let you be my idol.

Listen,

I'm done with you.
You make me go 'round and 'round
Like a carousel,
Trusting you when I fall,
But you were never there to catch me.

How can you be my idol,

When you weren't there for me?
If you don't like my rebellion,
That's fine -

I'm not here to please you or anyone.
I'm sick of you,
So I won't be here for you,
Like you weren't there for me.

So I preach to the choir,
As my voice goes higher.

My fire burns brighter,
As I walk this path to my destiny.
I have a new idol,
And she's even better than you.

My dear Higher Self,

How I open myself more to you.
You've saved me,
So I let you guide me.
You know what I know -
Shared knowledge.
Let's do this together,
Arm in arm.

As I preach to the choir,
My voice goes louder,

My fire engulfs me.
I shine bright,
With the fire within,
I lean into the light.
