Weaponized Empathy

Yael Olalde-Garcia

i’ve weaponized empathy,

or maybe i’ve lost it

tell the fat blind man he can see

you don’t have to know where you shoot

when you know about wounds

you’re just dangerous

to others

you shoot up in silence

and call it heaven on earth

you reek of impurity

but swallow human flesh in your sleep

you talk about long rhythms

and our similarities

id wash my mouth with heavy metals

if it meant we didn’t.

Full of metaphor this poem speaks to me of addiction and abuse and its effects on a relationship. A dark poem
