Heaven sent

Jeremy Leach

Rest awhile under the dappled trees, cooling air, serenity, gentle rustle of youthful leaves in mid-summer breeze

The nearby brook in timeless flow, through long thin fronds of emerald green, lazy brown trout in shaded water below, laying their vibrant orange roe

Butterflies bobbing in to and fro, courting through the seeded heads of dried grass, graceful dances they’ve always known, clothed in their fashionable exquisite robes

This years birds fledged from the spring, jittery bold and alive, already expert on the wing, swapping low alarms, joyous messages, and grumblings

The urgent flutter back and forth from the robin's nest,  the bounteous season of plenty, no time for their rest, life must be grabbed with zest,  like a baby suckling from the breast

Placed in a trance I close my eyes, as nature injects her soothing medicine, the swallows and swifts still circling way up high, gliding and riding the currents of the bluest of sun-kissed skies

Past and future so little is meant,  as I’m rocked in the lap of mother earth, and from her hair the sweetest scent, as her arms surround me in deepest content , and the beauty through her eyes is heaven sent
