Jezebel
the racehorse
with wolves
she was found
To run
in the daytime
by moonlight
she howled
Her stable
was cave like
her food
freshly killed
Smart jockeys
won’t ride her
no matter
how skilled
In May
was The Derby
with roses
askew
As trainers
and grooms
stood in fear
at high noon
She had
to be victor
or hell
would arrive
With Jezebel
eating
the winner
— alive

I loved the mixture of images here blending two very different species just as the biblical metaphor of name and character evokes two different images of eroticism and betrayal the horse in this case eats the winner. Clever wording throughout makes this a most wonderful poem
Thanks. I miss the nursery rhymes of my childhood where wolves stalked children and gingerbread houses
called out. I think they were good metaphors for later in life. People always underestimate children's ability to
see the messaging inside the irony. Today, they just have blatant video games with unrelenting and pointless
violence ....
That is a clever twist, very nicely done and enjoyable
Thanks PL.
You are very welcome
Excellent write Kurt

Whoa, Kurt! Talk about a thrilling, wicked ride! This gave me chills—in the best possible way. Your Jezebel leaps right off the page, teeth bared. That ending made me grin devilishly. Darkly delightful and brilliantly spun, as always! 🌹👏
Very kind. I hope somewhere Rod Serling is reading it.
