My Closest Friend

Vanna

My Closest Friend

I sit in the darkness of night— my closest friend.

It knows my pain like the back of its hand. It knows the voices in my head like a mother knows her daughter. It knows how tired I always am— like a moth knows light.

The darkness of night watches me peel off my mask of fake smiles and fragile "I'm fine"s.

I too find the night my best friend, comforting and nondemanding. It listens and holds one in its protecting arms. A lovely write
