they came in silence

gray0328

black boots swallowed streets whole

their faces hidden behind hard stone

a knock was not a request

a hand through the doorframe shattered

america how did you become this

a house of broken hearts

a sanctuary of unmarked vans

men without names steal bodies away

their mothers wail into the earth

i wake in a land of sirens

freedom trembling behind each tongue

what is liberty if it is chained

to fear sold as safety

to fear louder than love

A powerful poem of fear and nightmares now real. Where freedom lies on the ground for years we fought the Nazis then the Communists now we use their tools to build what we call freedom.
