Colonel Marshmallow

Steve Goldenfort

A black dog it started with, age same as me.
The first time he bit me, we had just turned three.

The Colonel would bite me, time and again.
Never once scolded or put in a pen.

Growing together, he wanted me dead.
But human I am, I outlived him instead.

This last one I'll have, his fur white as snow.
Gentle and kind, just like old Massimo.

I knew from the moment that we said hello.
The name that he'd go by, would be Marshmallow.
