When I pass away
As we all will one day
what ill be the effect
I have had on others
Friends, or strangers
Sisters and brothers ?
I have lived through both pleasure and pain
My days have been well-lived: in the main
But sometimes I wonder when death comes to me
What will remain there for all the world to see ?
My body may show how much it had cost
To maintain good health – so all was not lost
I wonder whether the insects will feed on my brain
Finding much of it lost, where it was eaten up by pain
My hands will lie helpless by my side
My feet will have finally lost their sturdy stride
The air may not reach me under the ground
My heart will lie still – the beats will not sound
Soon – I’ll just be a memory in people’s mind
My eyes will be sightless – for I will be blind
Yes – my body will be gone
But my memory will be there
In the hearts of my friends
And family who did care
And who knows –
But my verse may also find
A place in people’s hearts
Or imprinted in their mind
My deeds will also live
If they are worthy of being told
So let me care and share
Till I am frail and old
No one lives forever
Our walk through life is short
So it will really matter
What change in general I wrought

Well written reflection upon the impact that one life may have in the ripples that follow it into the lives of others. Nicely done

Hello, safina,
A beautiful poem of wonder as the author ponders her legacy after the inevitable. Perhaps to be remembered as one remembers the loved ones they have lost. In a way the question also asks, how do people see me now, those nearest and dearest to me, colleagues, fellow poets etc. You have treated the subject admirably, delicately without being morbid. I like this poem, very much so and I am sure your poetry will live on and be loved long after you have flown. Much praise for this one.
Hope you have a lovely week ahead,
Tony.
thank you so much for the lovely and positive feedback. Am touched..
Amen - may all of us live through the good that we have done, as also through our verse.
Have a wonderful and productive day/week/month..God bless

Thanks dear. Was thinking of you a few days back as used to enjoy reading your work and have been missing you on this forum for quite some time. Glad to see you back. Will check it out soon 👍💐
And now watch the flowers grow from below. Wow, how profound! What a question you're asking, but I think by asking it, you're taking on the voice of the whole world. This text shows the courage to know oneself so fragile and yet reach out to reach for the eternal. Thank you so much for sharing. I enjoyed it very much. Best regards.
