When I was younger I was rich

Molly Delaney

When I was younger I was richer

Not in material things like money

Not yet bound by my thirst for knowledge

I was rich in ways that matter more most days.

Happiness,

Rich golden threads wrapped around my heart,

Sung in every note,

Flowing from every bound took.

Wealthy from tightly woven friendships,

Not yet marred by teenage complexities and adult responsibilities,

When a football and cheap bib kept us occupied for hours on end,

When a rectangle full of metal didn’t dictate my life

When wealth was defined not by the amount of money you had nestled in a bank account

But by how loud you had laughed that week.

When I was younger I was rich

Indeed riches measured in different ways and values that change. I too have nostalgia for those days. Nicely written

I have always said I would live on a park bench if my heart was happy, to be truly happy is the greatest wealth of all, enjoyed the read
