The stars aligned, but only for a while.
They were side by side, like it was fate.
He caught my eyes, and I did his.
There was always something about that smile,
Something that he had, but never with a mate,
It felt like we were destined for this.
Late night talks, partners, a helping hand,
A school tie that I couldn’t work out myself,
He jumped in straight away, no one else did.
Sparks were there, it wasn’t planned,
No one was there, just ourselves.
But we couldn’t stay like this, God forbid.
Played my favourite songs on your piano,
Just for me, us alone in your room.
Lips so soft you even called them home.
Played me some of your music demos,
Talked about love and its gloom,
But with me it was different— something had grown.
This side of you was different, full of pride.
You weren’t scared to show me the real you.
Our wrists entwined in roses with thorns
Bleeding, because I can’t be a bride
Our bond had every colour, every hue.
It was real, every moment, but you were already torn.
Met me out the back of the school,
Where the gardenias grown in the garden.
He mumbled in my ear, he can’t be seen with me.
He left me alone there, I felt like a fool,
Believing in something that truly was a burden.
The stars were aligned, but it wasn’t meant to be.

- Comment from author about the poem: I think this is the first ‘love’ poem I have wrote about a romantic relationship. I had been thinking a lot and the failed relationship came to mind a lot so I thought I could try string something together about it. It didn’t end well but lasted a good while. I did see I could attach links to audios and I debated adding it to the poem but chose not to. If you are curious about the songs ,I was going to include them in the links or the message so give them a listen if you’d like. They remind me a lot of the moments that were there and it is bittersweet to me now but whatever happens, happens for a reason. A poem of a complicated relationship that didn't pan out. Nicely written
A touching write, that even though everything can appear so right sometimes it is just not meant to be, nicely expressed and written
