The Four Sisters

Tony Grannell

Fair lady spring when buds appear,
of blushing youth, a darling dear.
Her reign adorned in gowns of green
and blest the joys when she is seen.

Hail summer’s queen in regal sways
through splendour’s grace and glory days.
Her golden hair ‘neath veils of blue,
bestowing light on morning dew.

Comes autumn’s lass a losing hope,
she fears the tightening icy rope.
With no escape, herself deceives,
to chasing winds in falling leaves.

Cold winter’s wench in naked stride
on icy breaths her armies ride.
She pities not, she’s cruel a beast
and done her rule when all deceased.

Ye sisters all in season’s coil,
the art of life from soil to spoil.
From seed to sprout to bloom and fade,
in death depart, with time, decayed.

I have read many a poem with this metaphor but this one stands out as more human and in its allegory is better developed than most giving it personality and a sense of life itself which is the metaphor at its core. It breaths and bleeds all in good rhythm, meter, its heartbeat pumping its lifeforce through each line. Another lovely write Tony and just as there are four seasons each line of the quatrain is a metaphor for a season each melting into the rhyme of the next only to be repeated with another stanza just as another year follows the last. lest I go too far in this ramble let me say it is another favorite of yours

          Hello, Soren,

The only poem I ever wrote, where the title came to me first, usually it's the first line; I think that's what gave it personality. Your review is lovely. Thank you very much for spending some time with this poem. Most kind of you indeed.

          Your fellow poet and friend,

          Tony.

Heck yeah! A finely woven ode, Tony. Each sister arrives with her own weight and hue, and it is all tied together with a graceful finality. Truly, an excellent job, my dear friend. 🖤🙏🕯️

🤣 I aim to please...and occasionally confound...LOL! But for you, Tony, I only aim to please! All jokes aside...thank you, truly. You’re always a joy to engage with. Hope all is well with you, my friend.

Your poem explores the cyclical nature of the seasons and their personification as women, each representing different stages of life. You illustrate the beauty, joys, and sorrows associated with each season, reflecting on the inevitable passage of time and the transient nature of life.
