One More Chance

Rose Abrilith

Just one more chance is all I ask.

My heart aches for the chance to bask

in the radiant laughter of my friends,

the chance to show how they defend

with courage and love my dignity.

To weep from grief and tragedy,

and have my heart tremble from fear.

Oh! To be so alive to feel my heart be pierced

from the pain of loss, sorrow and woe!

and alive enough to feel my soul radiate with hope!

To see the sunset tomorrow,

to feel the warmth of its glow.

To smell the warm spring rain,

and hear its soft puttering on the window pane.

Burdensome suffering? I had not suffered enough!

Oh, what I would give, though life is tough-

Oh, so much I would give

that once more I may live,

but, alas… alas,

today was my last.

Just one more chance

is all I ask

Tis human to ask for just one more, whether it be a breath, a taste, a ride at the park, a minute with friends, a kiss with a lover. A lovely poem of a wish to linger a little longer. Lovely

Dang, that last line really pulls the poem through into something great
