The Last to Know

The Last to Know

How come I was the last to know?

I should have known when people kept asking if I was okay.

I should have known when my parents started checking just to see if I was alive.

I should have known when everything around me started turning grey— not just the sky, but the way I saw myself.

I should have known when hiding started to feel safer than breathing.

I should have known when just your face sent my chest into sirens and tremors.

Gosh—  why didn't I know?

Why was I the last one to realize I was not okay?

A raw poem that takes the topic of self awareness and puts it in question form. A nicely composed work that makes us all reflect
