When the good ones let me go.

Insiya Najmi

When the good ones let me go.

I've always been told to cry silently,

So to this day, I've felt quietly.

I've suppressed myself, keeping them above,

As they soared the skies, like a white dove.

I've hunted for their praise,

listened to their problems,

Poured out my empathy,

And now I'm left empty.

I've been told to hide my tears,

So the only ones that've seen the pain,

Are my pillow and my fears,

The drops pouring like rain.

They confided in me,

And I was happy to be needed.

But somewhere along the way,

My listening capacity receded.

I've been shushed if I sobbed,

Told that no one needs to see me cry,

But isn't it human,

To be hurt and sigh?

I've lent my ear,

But they don't care a dime,

They roll their eyes,

If I even try.

I've tried it all,

Tried to hide it in,

Heaved my chest,

As I swallowed again.

I don't know how long

I can keep this up for,

For one day the dam will burst,

And the ocean will flood the town.

I can't tell when that'll be,

But when it comes,

Destruction there'll be.

Broken hearts and broken bones,

Never healed, forever torn.

I meant to change,

Believe me, I did

But when I saw their troubled faces,

All the anger bubbled out of me,

And I just sat down, with a cuppa tea.

They poured their heart out,

Then thanked me too,

I only wish,

I could've poured mine out too.

I met someone,

A while ago,

They made me feel like,

I'd never be alone.

I walked them to the shores

But somewhere along the way,

They became like those folks

Who have never ever cared.

What hurt me most about this betrayal,

Is the mirage they devised,

They said they cherished me,

While they were never really by my side.

Atleast the good thing about the others,

Was that they didn't lead me on,

Just used and discarded, like a stupid pawn.

I didn't have any expectations,

From them at all.

But you, I hoped,

Were different after all.

"Alas, my luck

is the worst,

I know,

The wrong ones always stay,

While the good ones let me go."
