The Storm of the Rose

Santajah Douglass

In the garden of my heart, where shadows dare to roam, I am the Rose, once shy, who thought herself unfit for home. Though petals grace my face, and sunlight warms my core, I am the Rose with thorns, the prickly one you adore.

The storms of life may come, and tear at me, But in the aftermath, the sun does shine, and I am free. A smile upon my lips, I dance within the breeze, But in the quiet moments, doubts and fears do seize.

This Rose, once small, now full and tall, I question if I am worthy, for I am not immune to the fall. Yet you, the sun, the light that guides my way, You come to me, and in your presence, I do sway.

I am the Rose, guarded and afraid, Yet you, the sun, have broken down the shade. I am no longer wilting, but growing strong and bright, Though storms may come, I know you'll be in sight.

What's done is done, and yet, I ask for more, For in this life, I long to be yours, and yours forevermore. No longer a seedling in the ground, but a Rose in full bloom, I'll face the storms and the sun, with you, my eternal boon.

So how do I solve this life, these feelings I possess? I'll cherish every moment, with you, my happiness. For I am the Rose, with thorns and all, But with you, my sun, I stand tall.

A wonderful poem of being who one is despite its weaknesses and defenses, it belongs where it is and was born. Lovely internal rhyme within this garden of freeform that gives beauty to the flower. Very nice

I love poems about roses. This was really nice to read. Great imagery and rhyme scheme also. Enjoyed it a lot.
