Sweet Forgiveness

Tony Grannell

From the darker shades of being,
where a split through faith was drawn.
A crack where the light escapes
and its longing for the dawn.
An uninvited darkness
where my dreams could not hold on.
I felt a glint returning
from a light a long time gone.

A spark that struck a moment
and its ambiance to pass
a mood to kindle spirits
burning shadows from the past
and there amongst the ashes
is where I was wrongly cast.
A form of sweet forgiveness
found her way to me at last.

Delivered from the cinders,
finding hope within my reach.
Welcoming the host of light
where darkness could be breached.
She moved in my direction,
where she stepped into the breach,
when heard my pledges pleading
for forgiveness in my speech.

Shone down on me with mercy
at the breaking of the dawn.
“You have wronged me in the past,
let you now and hereupon
to me, you’ll be devoted
for I’ve bade your past, begone!
I am here and forever
with my dear forgiven one.”

First comment! Yay! Tony, this carries a gentle light breaking through...mercy stepping in where darkness had lingered. The rise from shadow to forgiveness is beautifully paced. A very lovely work and a fave, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Well written, your poem delves into the emotional struggle of grappling with past mistakes, the burden of guilt, and the eventual relief that comes from seeking and receiving forgiveness. It portrays a personal journey of healing, highlighting the contrast between despair and hope, darkness and light.

A wonderful write of past demeanors and mistakes being forgiven, clearing the mind of the guilt and despair that had been resident for a long time. Taken by the caring hand out of the darkness and into the light, beautiful write as usual

This poem radiates healing; a journey from despair to redemption, where light slowly reclaims the soul’s fractured spaces. The rhythm is gentle yet resolute, and the final stanza delivers a moving absolution: forgiveness not just granted, but embraced. A tender, luminous piece that finds grace in the ashes.
