To the Value of One

Kevin Hulme

If we could only know of those Watered eyes,

When word was heard of our sad demise;

Our View of self would come to Pass

When next we gaze within the Glass.

For their Love is Strong and Fathoms deep

Though Richly Veiled their emotions keep;

We are much their life and breaking dawn,

To Crush our Hearts to see them mourn.

For our Shadow is long and blankets all

To bring such warmth to whom it falls;

For much in life is Cheaply sold,

But the Value of One is weighed in Gold.

              For me, “The Value of One” is a meditation on the irreplaceable impact a single life holds, weaving its title through images of unseen grief, steadfast love, and the quiet radiance we cast on others. From the veiled emotions of those who’d mourn us, to the shadow that “blankets all” with warmth, the poem measures worth not in currency but in the gold standard of human connection ,which is a reminder that, in a world where much is cheaply sold, the singular presence of one person can be priceless.

                You said it better than I did.
                Yes It's like the film ' It's a Wonderful life: when he sees how things are when he wasn't born.
                Thank you for Reading.
