The Mirror Says Aye

rebellion_in_sanity

O hey, I am lost
can you help me, please?
someone asked me who I was—
what answer should I give?

colour, ethnicity, being uncouth,
which is me?
the only colour I carry
is the colour of poverty,
and the mirror agrees.

I only see an ordinary bloke,
waiting in a queue
for the permit to exist.

yet, at the desk,
someone says:
"only the rich, please".

brothers and sisters,
drowning in poverty,
poor's ark is the place to be.
a long time back,
i stepped on it.

colour, ethnicity—
the fancy words.
though I wish I had the right one.
but do they lessen
poverty's misery?

we, the affliction on polity,
those you left behind—
now the shadows are pulling you in.

O hey, did you say:
"this sodding chap is a blight
on polite society"?

yes sir, yes ma'am,
that I am.
I am your faithful servant,
a true product of your kind creation.

The only safe designation is one's name (if it is a popular one) mine does not count. A not so fun read for the poor but one that I'm sure the wealthy can find some humor in at our expense. Nicely done

The world, or so much of it these days is just so unjust, its unreal but real if you get my drift like I hope I caught the tail end of yours .. Neville

That title grabbed me right away, my friend…and the poem more than lived up to it. Raw, unflinching, and honest to the bone. Beautiful work. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦‡πŸ¦β€β¬›

No worries, my friend. I am recovering from laryngitis and, well, being overwhelmed by work and life! I am always glad for your responses, no matter when they come! Hope you are feeling better.
