Disillusioned

NafisaSB

Eyes are not rivers

And yet they too flow

Heart is not a mirror

And yet it also breaks

Man is not climate

And yet he changes too

So do not be fooled

By people who promise the moon

For you will be disillusioned

Very, very soon

Buyer beware they always used to say. A clever poem of advice that anyone with any sense will listen to. Nicely done

    • NafisaSB

thanks. yes, better safe than sorry, though one always learns the truth after experiencing the pain.

Dear Safina, this poem carries with it the precision of a fable: short, clear images that work like stepping stones toward a quiet but stinging truth. It’s spare, but it lingers, the kind of poem where the spaces between the lines feel as loaded as the words themselves.

we are so often naive, and always want to believe the best of people, until they disillusion us - that is the time we learn an unforgettable lesson

Buyer's shock or remorse should not be a thing after reading this poem. Warning issued! Truth, my friend. A very wise and clever poem indeed. A fave! πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

how many of us listen to words of advice, and inadvertently fall in for false promises - it's amazing how naive we can be...

                • Tristan Robert Lange

                  For sure! Very naive!

I saw you more optimistic than that, but cannot deny that realistic does for you very well. Neat truth more often than not.

you have read me correctly - watching cricket on the small screen : when we see a ball lobbed in the air - i will vote for sixer, while my practical person will shout 'out'
so yes i am learning to be practical, and despite trying to be optimistic and caring - try to work out a way, when people do not keep taking advantage of me ..enough is enough
Thanks for stopping by - wishing you a good week ahead

I agree some people know how to talk big and make promises. Your intelect will always give u a warning hopefully and one can learn to disbelieve, ignore and move on.

                          • NafisaSB

i truly hope so - and i hope we learn to read the warning signals
