A flower in the lawn,
Smiling in a quiet yard,
Dipped in love—soft and pure.
A kite in the sky,
Aspiring like a river, breaking rocks,
Making the gardener proud.
But oh, what a destiny!
Uprooted, the gentle one
Was planted in another’s pot,
Hoping for the shower of love.
Instead, surrounded by a fiery storm,
Burned inside out,
Without mercy—
For a handful of coins.
Is this happenstance,
Or someone’s selfish desire?

- Comment from author about the poem: “Atrocity” is my voice against the cruelty of dowry. Dedicated to every girl who lost her life, and to every woman whose dreams were burned by selfish desires. No daughter deserves this. May this poem be a small voice against the atrocity of dowry and a reminder that change begins with us.

You are most welcome
Apalling. Societal values and norms imposed on the individual. Well said.
I would have preferred though that the material provided in your comment be the subject matter of your poem.
