On the Loss of Foss – (Edward Lear’s Cat)

Susannah

Dear tabby cat with stubby tail,

I sketched you many times

In funny black and white cartoons

For you inspired my rhymes.

Oh Foss, oh Foss I feel your loss.

You were a friend to me.

Oh Foss, oh Foss I feel your loss.

And miss you terribly.

You were my muse of melodies.

You were the one I wrote

Into my famous children's poem

About the pea green boat.

Oh Foss, oh Foss I feel your loss.

You were a friend to me.

Oh Foss, oh Foss I feel your loss.

And miss you terribly.

When you were sitting on my desk

You always helped me think.

You rolled across my manuscripts

To help me dry the ink.

Oh Foss, oh Foss I feel your loss.

You were a friend to me.

Oh Foss, oh Foss I feel your loss.

And miss you terribly.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about Edward Lear\\\'s cat. This cat, Foss, was an inspiration for his poem \\\'The Owl and the Pussy-cat\\\' . He also sketched Foss in many comic cartoons. In the poem I take on Lear\\\'s voice - he was very upset when Foss died.

A great tribute to a character. A fun read that has extended meaning to other figure missed and lost to time. Very nice

Welcome to MPS. You will eventually accustom yourself to some of the eccentricities of the machine.....

Nice one. Dickens had a Raven that he put in Barnaby Rudge.
