Twelve Steps to Heaven

C.W. Bleu

One is too many,
A thousand, you’ll bleed.
If it’s not true, it’s well-conceived.
Only twelve steps to divinity.

Old wise man,
keychain remedy—
“It’s not your fault, it’s a disease”
You’re not accountable—
words before deeds,
Give yourself up
to the land of make-believe.

No time for love,
all day with regret.
These twelve steps are heaven-sent.
Twelve short steps and you’ll be fine.
Only twelve steps, you’ll realign.

Step twelve minus nine—
You’re gonna make it this time.

Six pieces of silver,
one piece of lead.
Fall off the wagon—
I swear you’ll be dead.
By morning,
I’ll read your obituary,
It’ll be a short story.

No time for love,
all day with regret.
These twelve steps are heaven-sent.
Twelve short steps and you’ll be fine.
Just twelve steps, you’ll realign.

Step twelve minus nine…

Fuck it all,

Red Whine.

A commentary on twelve step programs for addiction. I still wonder how these programs have the success they do. A most interesting poem and warning.

I wonder myself. It's like hanging out with dry addicts: all depression, no party. Even the snacks hate the meetings.

If it works it works can't question success

If seems like hope wrapped in platitudes, a little more than maybe. Could just be me though.
