You just left me standing in the middle of the road
No idea what town I was in or which direction I should go
All because you didn't like my choice of clothes
I knew that you were petty but this one takes the Gold!
Left me standing in Gurnee Illinois I WAS 14 YEARS OLD!
I watched you drive away untill your taillights were out of view
This has to be some sick joke you were known to play a prank or two
Half an hour passed and you didn't return
I started hoofing it in the direction you left in feeling rejected and incredibly hurt
Trying my best not to cry although my eyes burned
Hoping that you'd come back to no avail lesson learned
378 miles was the distance from my home
As I was told by a friendly trucker that stopped along the road.
He took me as far as he could and radioed other truckers to make sure that I was good.
Another ride from Le Claire took me to a rest stop outside of Iowa City
I slept on a picnic table and an older couple took pity
The following morning they gave me a ride to Des Moines
The old man reached into his pocket and gave me a handful of coins
I found a payphone and called my grandparents
They came to get me as soon as they got my message.
I told them what had happened and they were both furious
And they told me "Fuck her, from now on you live with us"
I know that my younger sister was your favorite
You've told me a million times
Like when I was very sick as a young child
You wished that I would die
But I can say this since you're now gone
You made me a cold hearted monster
Thanks for that... Mom.

- Comment from author about the poem: This is 100% a true story. All because I was wearing a Slayer T-shirt while on a trip visiting some friends of the person that this is about... I don't want to give away anything.
