The beauty whose eyes first seized me with compassion,
Now spills a spring of joy into my hollow chest,
A gate swung wide to a wonderful garden of her heart,
Where she breathes the softest syllables against my ears,
A shining star orbited by moons of hunger and desire,
Was a beautiful spectacle one could observe in a lifetime,
Though only I was blessed by her with that vision,
How foolish, to think her heaven is public.
My venomous tongue instead of watering her curves,
Casts clouds across the light she pours,
She bestowed that glow as a sacred gift,
The way a lover lays her heart in beloved hands,
But I squander it, though your laughter survives my ruin,
Better a mute with eyes unshaken
than a silver tongue blind to your radiance.
