Falling, Failing

Tristan Robert Lange

Verse 1:
Sitting here lonely tonight,
Sipping my blues away.
I’m wandering in dim light
Hoping to reclaim the day.

Pre-Chorus:
Is there something I can do,
Or some place that I can go,
I’m dying to reach you love,
The only ways I know.

Chorus:
But I am falling, failing
Our love once was so tight.
I am falling, failing love
As I head out in the night

I’m falling, failing alright.

Verse 2:
No one said it was easy,
Or in love there’s no pain,
But I’m dying for you baby
To love me once again.

Pre-Chorus:
Is there something I can do,
Or some place that I can go,
I’m dying to reach you honey,
The only ways I know.

Chorus:
But I am falling, failing
Our love once was so tight.
I am falling, failing love
As I head out in the night

I’m falling, failing alright.
I’m falling, failing all night.

Bridge:
Just pour me a glass
Of rocks without love.
Your silence shocks me,
Like a violent shove.

Chorus (2x):
But I am falling, failing
Our love once was so tight.
I am falling, failing love
As I head out in the night.

End:
I’m falling, failing alright.
I’m falling, failing all night.

  • Comment from author about the poem: It’s time for some more Freaky Friday Frolics. Written in 2019, Falling, Failing is a TragicLife song that blends raw lyricism with hard-hitting emotion. Released with an official VEVO video that same year, the track explores love unraveling and the ache of collapse.

Soren, I appreciate that, my friend. These words came out raw, written along with the music as a song. If you get the chance, the video’s up with it too. Grateful for your read. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Yay! So glad you liked it! It's always weird staring at oneself in any context, but super glad it delivered! 🙏🖤

Not going to forget “Just pour me a glass
Of rocks without love." anything soon. Nicely written 👏

My friend, I appreciate that. That “rocks without love” line came out of an appreciation of Neil Diamond and his, "Love on the Rocks," song from the film, The Jazz Singer. Had long loved that line and, when it came to writing this song, it poured out like a stiff whiskey over ice. Grateful for your read and presence. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

The poem explores themes of heartbreak, longing, and emotional turmoil in the context of a romantic relationship that is fading. It conveys a sense of desperation and a yearning for reconnection, highlighting the pain that often accompanies love. Yet it deals with feelings of loneliness and sadness, as the speaker grapples with the decline of a once-strong relationship. It reflects on the struggle to cope with love's challenges and the desire to rekindle a lost connection.

This is so lovely. I find it difficult to separate music from poetry...they were meant to be together it seems. Well done!

Remarkable poetry in musical form, how many of our most beloved songwriters are poets at heart. You're right up there my friend. Kudos, beautifully done!

How many, indeed. Poetry, for me, is the song of the soul...so, it makes sense that words would become melody, etc. Thank you so much for getting that and feeling it in this particular song! And wow! Thank you for the praise too. I am humbled. Again, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed! 🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Hearing “Falling, Failing” as a song changes the feel completely. It’s not just a confession in ink, it’s a lived moment in sound.
The steady, blues‑tinged groove gives the verses a weary sway, like someone nursing a drink at closing time, while the chorus lands like a release: raw, simple, and aching in its repetition. The bridge, with “Your silence shocks me, like a violent shove”, cuts through the smoothness with a jolt, and in performance it feels like the emotional peak before sliding back into that resigned, late‑night refrain. It’s the kind of song you can imagine echoing in a dim bar, where the audience feels every drop of that slow fall.

Grateful for the way you carried this one, my friend. I am glad that the music enhanced the experience (in a positive way 😅) and that you enjoyed it as a whole. Your time, analysis and support are very much appreciated, Rik. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛
