All I Can Hear

Meera Mere

"I wish I could hear you more often," he says.
One day it will all just be too normal,
too usual, is all I hear.

"You're pretty," he says.
But pretty will be a mere word years later,
is all I hear.

"I am jealous of everyone around you who get to see you every day," he says.
But you will be another thing I see every day,
like everyone is,
is all I hear.

"You’re my everything," he says.
But everything always turns into nothing,
is all I hear.

"You make me feel alive," he says.
But life is a fleeting guest,
and guests always leave,
is all I hear.

"I’ll never let you go," he says.
But forever is just a word
people borrow until it breaks,
is all I hear.

You say all these things,
and all I hear is you leaving

Wow, this is so deep. I love the repetition of ‘is all I hear’ — when he says one thing but you feel another. Different perspectives, different feelings, all mixed with emotions. Beautifully written.

    Well worded....
Promises without commitment are merely words.
Love reflects in action not words...
    Nicely done..

Everything is temporary but true love that does not come in words. A most lovely write with each pledge followed by its logical outcome. A fave
