Sometimes it isn’t the spotlight we crave,
but the quiet hand that tells us,
you are here, you exist, you matter.
We wander rooms filled with voices,
yet feel like shadows drifting past
the corners of other people’s eyes.
This is not weakness—
it is the pulse of being human,
the tender wish to be seen
before we vanish into silence.
But when we dare to face the mirror,
to embrace the reflection fully,
something loosens—
fear begins to unclench its fists,
and we discover a freedom
that no gaze outside can ever give.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem was born from an intimate truth: many times, we are not seeking superficial attention, but the certainty that our life has weight, that we are not invisible. It arises from the deeply human need to be recognized and validated, but also from the realization that the most powerful validation does not come from the outside—it comes from our own reflection. The poem reflects this transition: from vulnerability to courage, from the grip of fear to the relief that opens when we begin to truly see and accept ourselves.

A beautiful write about us as social animals. We may not crave attention and acclaim but recognition that we exist and in that search the existential truth is that we must first recognize ourselves and you are so right it is from the inside that this is born and grows. Wonderful!
Thank you so much for your words. Reading your comment made me pause and reflect on how deeply connected we are as humans in this search to be seen. It means a lot coming from someone whose work I admire. Truly grateful.
You are most welcome. You are too kind yourself and I thank you
The use of Imagery is engaging “shadows drifting past the corners of other people’s eyes” beautifully captures invisibility in social spaces. “fear begins to unclench its fists” strong personification of fear as something that grips and finally releases. Nicely written poem.
Thank you. What you shared touches me deeply. For me, this poem was about the human need to be seen, and the courage it takes to see ourselves first. I’m grateful that its truth resonated with you.
