Smiling Like Trouble

A Boy With Roses

Tonight, I will make another bad decision
I won't think twice like Ferdinand in Egypt
I never really regret it in the moment
My self-destructive heart
My self-indulgence
The thought of giving up
All I've ever known is the promise I told myself
The secrets on these walls
The static of repetition
My Ca' d'Oro
Smiling like trouble
I see a Prince in my dreams
Sweating in the cold
The morning and its teeth
Drinking to Alexander Pope
Swallowed by a heartless appetite
At a pivotal edge
I tell you about my pain, but you never listen
When I say I'm an hourglass, always running out
I am every harvest
In my low-end lingo
Percolating in your manhole
Every night we were insane
Sanctifying the kiss, the risk, the hurt
Fuck it, deeper, harder, softer
I'll be your deep-sea diver
You're the song I play over and over
My fortune in a shitty newspaper
They say it, how we sow, something so subtle
Idyllic
As a bell or the horse
Scared to move or utter a word
Maybe that was long ago
Maybe I'll never know
How you live and die like a rose.

Thank you! I think a few lines in this one are quite naughty of me 🙂

The mix of history, confession, and passion makes this so powerful. Nicely written.
