Impervious to the sadness of the night, the whistling wind, the warm days, or the longing of youth, he instead finds comfort in the sunset that gently rests on his weathered face.
I wonder whether love has genuinely softened his heart or if he has longed for a tender touch beneath his rugged exterior.
His dark gaze reveals a deep loneliness that weighs on his soul, and now, as if he has lost the strength to carry on, he seeks solace, little by little, among the vibrant autumn leaves behind his lifeless room.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem reflects on the father of my children, a man who studied medicine across Kabul, Japan, France, and the U.S., but was never satisfied with life. His mental health struggles led him to leave his family and human bonds behind. Despite the hierarchy we faced, my two sons and I carry these honours with us. I believe he lived solely for his professional achievements as an internal specialist. This photo was taken in Sawgrass, Florida, during a casual doctors' gathering in 1999. The poem was written in 2020, following our last visit to him at the private facility where he spent his final years.

Lovely a tribute to a man, husband, father. For some reason the image of Vincent van Gogh came to mind. A fave
Thank you for the thoughtful comment and for connecting this piece to the sad life of Vincent van Gogh.
